Did you get back ok Dan? Bit of a bugger losing your front brake bolts:(
The Trail centres are very hard on bikes, would be worth upgrading if you are going to keep riding.
Did your energy levels come back up ok? More snacks in future to stop you bonking!
Hope you had fun and got home ok.

I got back with no probs, thanks for asking. I really enjoyed the ride and I'm still smiling about it.
In a way I'm glad the brakes fell off because I was pretty knackered anyway! I think the bike decided I'd had enough, bless it's heart.
Several morals to be gained: when doing bike maintenance before going on a ride the next day, check the components in question several times during the ride… Next moral: If the ride is more than three hours, eat a proper breakfast and carry lots of grub for the ride.
Thanks to all of you for a great day out!
Dan
PS: OK then William, I concede that a full sus may be of some value. What would you get if you were splashing out? ;-)

Phew – glad you made it back OK Dan! Both you and Ed were doing a grand job riding hard tails around there; the downhills are as much hard work as the climbs

Dan.
Good to hear you got back ok, we were a bit concerned when we got back as we didn't see you arrive, so were not completely convinced you had left ok. It was a pretty tough day, especially on a hard tail, and I was just about finished after we descended from where you dropped off, legs jellied from absorbing the rocky descents.
Like you still smiling, so big thanks to all, especially Janet, Ian and Jason for the transport arrangements.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to worry you! I guess I must have looked a bit sh*t then. I thought you'd notice my old red Skoda Felicia was gone (I left the Porsche at home). When I got back to the car just I stuffed my face with sweets and sandwiches, in that order, and then just headed off eager to do my bike maintenance before dark. ;-)
A good adventure.

Hi Dan,
As Jason said, a 5 inch/140 mm bike as they can do a bit of everthing and make the best everyday bikes. Which one is a personel choice, you need to ride a few different bikes to see which ones you prefer, then it is down to what budget you set. You can get some good bargains at the moment, or the very latest 2010 bikes.
Are you thinking of getting one then?
You should always eat a proper breakfeast! eat before riding and snacks for longer rides. The wife had the Porsche then:)

they pretty much have all mountain reviews every month in the bike mags for varying price points as a starter – why not try some of the upcoming bike demo days to give some bikes a proper ride?!
