I have been advised by the County Council that Mott McDonald have been tasked with producing a viable plan for this traffic bottleneck. Although the earliest possible start date is 2021, funding and other factors permitting, the planning process has begun with an initial 28 options expected to reduce to four by April. I’m pleased to say that the site’s location in an AONB and on the Cotswold Way has prompted a request for the interests of NMU (non motorised users) to be considered from the start and I, as a the member of Gloucester City CC who sits on the County’s cycle liaison group, was asked to comment. The area of interest is noted on the attached map.

The horse riding community has apparently compiled a list of stables and preferred routes. It would be good if the cycling community could do the same. I can probably speak for GCCC, but thought I’d draw the matter to your attention as well. You could respond to me by email, or to Simon Excell, Lead Commissioner: Strategic Infrastructure, Gloucestershire County Council at Simon.EXCELL@gloucestershire.gov.uk (I’d appreciate being copied on any email), or what might perhaps be best would be to meet to discuss the topic. The Gala Club near Plock Court is convenient for me, and is the GCCC club room on a Tuesday night. Please let me have your thoughts on whether we should meet.

  1. Main route of interest for me is the track from Ullenwood SO 9457 1648 to Shab Hill SO 9398 1557 – it’s about the only non-main road track from Leckhampton towards Birdlip/Cranham and I use it pretty much every week.
