Ladies’ ride: From Stroud to Stinchcombe

The ladies try to take off from Stinchcombe. It almost worked.

The ladies try to take off from Stinchcombe. It almost worked.

Five of us: Becky, Elly, Lauren, Laura and myself, met up at Bond mill for a lane ride with Stinchcombe golf course as the farthest point. It was Laura’s first ride with Bigfoot and she was more than up to it. The ride is pretty benign except the climb up to Stinchcombe which is cruel. When you reach the house in the middle of the woods the gradient increases, just at the point when you had about enough. I run out of gears exactly there, 3/4 up the hill. My hybrid gave me a lot of advantages but there, I wished for my mountain bike.  But as I say: There is no shame in pushing as long as you do not throw your bike into the brush :).  We were shouted at once by a young car drive, big ego in a small car. Fortunately it happened at a point where the road split. He went one way, we the other way. Otherwise I would have challenged him. I am not good a keeping my temper under control when provoked.

Good ride. Brilliant company.

  1. I often stretch my tendons to keep cramp away!… Looks like a good ride, with some of you riding enormous distance considering it was on mountainbikes and partly muddy XC, Up to 70km or more. Well done. All the best, Dan

  2. Sounds like you guys had great fun apart from that nasty climb. I know it well, lol.
On a good day the view from the top is great but not as pretty as the pictures of you guys of course.
    Great distance too.
Catch you on the trails soon.
    Regards Paul.
