Four Go Crazy In Cannock
Dom, Steve, Dan and Dan travelled up to Cannock Chase to whoop and woohoo!!
Well a great time was had by all in Cannock. Dry trails, flowing single track – just fabulous fun in the sun, yes the sun shone all day.
We did the Monkey Trail, a 12 mile loop, had a quick snack break and did it again
As you can probably imagine, it was a busy day and there was a queue at the cafe, but then nothing could have spoilt our day in Cannock.
Fair play to the Forestry Commission- they’ve re routed the trail And it is fantastic fun:)

Nicely nicely – three ride reports in one weekend, that’s good going
Can’t tell you how great this was. And the weather was fantastic for riding: sunny and fresh. Was great fun overtaking everyone including a serious looking racing bunch in matching lycra outfits on their 29ers. I accidentally did a biggish jump, well it looked big to me at the time, put my bum behind my seat pretty sharpish and landed nonchalantly and finished the section way ahead of my three riding buddies
Great adventure in the sun. Felt good all day today too, until I heard Steve’s bikes were stolen. What a massive downer. Chin up mate.
Got to catch you one day, surely?!?! One day… sigh
Now Dan, tell me, what’s the make / brand of your chain lube…as I think that’s why your chain and cogs looked so sparkly at the end of lap 1…unless you didn’t put any on!! The Finish Wet Lube does like to have dirt stick to it, hence the blackened colouring towards the end of the day…obviously cleans up okay and less is more and all that but…if you use a different sort that might help…
awesome day out, perfect weather, good company, and amazing riding. if you haven’t been to cannock chase I strongly recommend going
.
Thanks again guys
And less than 90 minutes away
@mikep – up to five reports now, you can tell the weather is getting better
Shiny chain, ha ha. Dom, there’s no great secret: it’s a brand new SRAM cross-step chain so it’s covered in a wonderful protective glue like substance, then I put the green finish line sticky oil on without wiping off the excess, then I had a mid-week muddy ride and didn’t clean bike afterwards. Then Sunday morning I shoved it in the back of the car and drove to Cannock Chase! No joke. I’m not applying reverse psychology and messing with your brain… Before the ride though you may have noticed me wiping the chain down with a rag, applying a firm grip, and then applying the green lube. I also did that at end of first lap. Always worth doing. Even if there’s fine grit in the chain in the middle of an Enduro, say the Brecon Beast, you’ll find that a bit of lube applied at the halfway point will do wonders for the chain and gears. At the risk of boring the reader by going on,… when I got back I removed the chain and scrubbed it thoroughly with a brush in outdoors sink, applying strong jets of water, then wiped it down and hung it on the radiator to dry: the result is a shiny chain, and I get quite a bit of life out of them.
Perhaps I was mistaken but I was closely followed by someone doing some seriously heavy breathing. I had been assuming that was you close on my tail Dom, itching to overtake?
Doesn’t the heavy breathing put you off eh Dan!? Ha. Although he sounds like he’s about to keel over, it actually makes him quicker…
By the way, the ‘young’ Dan and Dom were the slow ones on the DH section. I even left a huge gap to get a clean run, and still caught them up. Tinkers
The best days riding by far for a long while. Cannock rocks (but watch out for thieving barstewards following you home)!!
Ah cleaning after the first lap! No wonder!!
I do all the other things you do save that one. So from now on…
Heavy breathing Steve, simply me trying to catch that pesky Dan…
…until the next time my friends…until the next time…
you lucky bunnies, with i was there.
How are you doing Paul? Won’t be too long I expect before you’re dragging me round Vederers in the dark again! Hope some of my skills will be a little more honed too!!
