Club AGM and the Bigfoot Heads of State for 2013 – Not quite the whole story so please read this all
First off a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the club over the past 12 months. This has helped to ensure the club is still a rip roaring success and as popular as ever. I could personally name all those who have helped, but the list would be way too long, I would be guaranteed to leave someone off by mistake…so you all know who you are and you all know I am truly grateful for your continued support. And that doesn’t mean all our other members don’t get a mention as well, it’s the whole club, it is the ethos and spirit that makes it great.
Now as per the header, it was our Annual General Meeting or AGM for short..so that means all five places on the club committee were up for election. Those whom attended the meeting voted, as well as other members who placed their thoughts via the web site and emails were counted so may I officially introduce the Committee to you?
Chairman – Jason Ayres
Vice – Chairman – Tim Knibbs
Membership Secretary – Steve Rendell
Treasurer – Peter Newell
Events co-ordinator – Susanne Klein
The roll of Easy Riders co-ordinator has been dropped as the club has a set of standard weekly rides and the naming of rides caused a bit of confusion and an Events Co-ordinator has replaced this committee position.
Also we have our Webmaster, Andrew Maddison and CTC Insurance Co-ordinator, Janet Clarke helping behind the scenes and carrying on with their positions so thanks as well.
** NOW THAT WAS ALL WELL AND GOOD until I had a change of heart at the weekend on the position of Chairman for this year. It all boils down to the amount of work I have put in over the last 4 year, it is a bit un-sustainable for another year and I need to take a small step back, so I sent out the emails below to the attendees and committee members from the last meeting…these are more to keep you in the loop and to give you a feel of why I have taken the call to step back from the Chairman role for the time being so you are all aware of my reasons and they are open and honest.
So the next club meeting in Feb (on the ride calendar http://www.bigfootmbc.co.uk/2013/01/feb-club-meeting-and-voting-in-of-chairman-for-2013-take-2/) the Chairman position for 2013 will be re-filled. So if you are keen to take charge of this position please put your name forward by posting here or emailing me? Susanne has put her name forward for the position so we have one candidate so far, but others are welcome to put their name forward. Please ensure you have you say and I will ensure there is a handover and support anyway.
26/Jan – email from Jason to the gang that kicked this all off
Our last meeting and AGM we voted in the team to guide Bigfoot for 2013, with the support of other key members as well. I put myself forward to continue as Chairman for one more year before handing over the reins and you kindly voted me in but it’s not as clear cut as that and it’s with this email that I am tendering my resignation as Chairman. The reasons why are many, a few personally ones and some club related, but I will not bore you with that detail. Over the past 4 years I have personally put in and also sacrificed a huge amount of my own time numerous times a week, week on week to ensure the club continues and grows, with your support, but that cannot continue for me at the same rate. It also has meant I have not (honestly) be able to pick and choose the rides and types of rides I do, as I am 3 times a week operating club rides.
I will still help with organising some of the club rides, organise track sessions and uplift days, etc. and support the club I love, but to a lesser extent as others need to step up and gave the time to ensure the great variety of weekly club rides continue to allow all club riders to participate and enjoy the trails we love.
27/Jan – follow up email email from Jason to the gang after some email traffic
Ok then all thanks for all the responses. To confirm even though I need to reduce my input from 200% to a more manageable 100% for the next year, I will still be an active participate in the club, but i cannot do the Chairman bit so the reins should be handed over to someone far more capable.
Touching on Andrews comment yes, we can have a vote next meeting to tidy things up and I will put a post on the web site on this. Susanne is the only candidate in the mix and if nothing changes will get my vote and I can do a handover as well.
Tim and others, sorry dudes and dudets if the team we had envisaged at the start of the month is not going to happen, but I have faith in you all of you and I am still going to be involved in stuff like away days, events and holidays and i strongly suspect in the future we can rekindle the reunion after I have recharged my batteries
call it a sabbatical/back bench role for the next 12 months
All the best and lets all get praying to the sun god Apollo as this weather truly sucks!

As I mentioned during the email exchange – I’m sure everyone will understand where you are coming from, as you’ll no doubt have more important things to concern yourself with soon and there is only so much time to go around
Removing the pressure of keeping things organised should mean you can turn up to rides and just enjoy them for a change which I’m sure will be very welcome!
Just to remind everyone that Jason was key in starting the grading of rides and his enthusiasm has lead to the club more than doubling in size over recent years! The success of any club is dependent on people coming forwards and offering their time and effort – hopefully Jason’s example has inspired you to contribute, even if it’s just in a small way…
If Susanne’s successful in becoming Chair we’ll also be looking for an Events Co-ordinator – could that be you?
From the first email to the first introductory ride Jason has always been enthusiatic and very welcoming, eager to push riders onward and upward. He has been an inspiring chairman and happy to teach an old dog new tricks from xc,dh,jumping, road and track riding. Bigfoot is an awesome club with awesome members heres looking to a good 2013 atb to next chairman/chairperson.
I second that craig you’ve done a great job jase. atb to next chairperson
Thank you all for your comments and emails thanking me for my hard work over the last four years, but its not just me it is all you lot as well that have helped make this club thrive…I hope the next chairperson can continue the footprint we have in place, coupled with some good weather, so we can get some regular XC riding back in.
On the “Events Co-ordinator” as nobody has put their name forward, oh well I will put my name forward for this position if that is ok?
I second your nomination Jase!
I will be at the meeting and when i return to the trail’s will do my best to bring the sunshine back with me.
As only three people are able to attend the meeting on Tuesday I suggest we postpone until a later date. If people wish to either put their name forward as a candidate or have their say/vote, it is essential that you either make it known or come to the rearranged meeting.
Cheers
OK, so attendees for the meeting so far are TimK, Peter, William, DanA, SusanneK and PaulW (Paul put his name down on main News post). So are six enough to go ahead with this? Think we’ve had fewer.
A little bit short notice. Could we please stick to plan A and have the meeting tomorrow since not only did I not put a ride up for tomorrow, but I shifted a meeting to 10 pm on Wednesday (not a joke, I work a lot with the USA) to make it to the meeting.
I will be attending whatever as plan A Susanne, so you will not be alone.
Is it right that we’ve only got one nominee for Chairperson by the way? I’d encourage others to come forward if only to validate the democratic process.
See you at the meeting on Monday (see ride guide)
