PAUL WHERTON’S OPERATION.
Hi all, just an update as i have just had another operation on my left arm as the original broken radius bone had been fitted with a titanium plate of which slipped and the bone healed shorter than it’s ulner bone brother, so they have gone back in the original incision and removed the plate and sewn me up and then made a 4 to 5 inch incision up the outside edge of my arm and broken and cut some bone out of my ulner bone and fitted a titanium plate to hold this bone together, result should be that both bone’s are the same length if not shorter than the original arm the hand/wrist knuckles should be aligned .
The operation took two to three hours and i spent a day and night in hospital and i am now at home with my arm in half plaster half bandage and sling to be kept still and elevated and treated as two broken arm bones as the screw holes have to heal in the radius until it is strong and when both bones have healed i need an operation to remove the titanium plate as it can’t be left inside my arm in this case has to be removed to stop it fouling on my tendons.
This has to say been a very trying road to recovery and i can hand on hart say wanted to give up at times but the support from my long suffering wife Michelle and my two boys and all my friends Bigfoot and all has been fantastic.
So keep it up and stay in contact, pop up and see me and have a cuppa and some biscuits because i am one big fed up bored guy seven months on and i have still got a long way to go, i am at home every day and evening contact me on 07757495563.

OK mate, I’ve only got a tiny inkling of what you must have gone through, but super well done for keeping going and I’m impressed how you’ve kept in pretty good shape. I only stopped cycling for a few weeks after my off and got comments that I was putting on some plumage or winter fat! As I’m not a squirrel I don’t see this as a good thing! Here’s hoping you get better as soon as possible so you can start getting yourself on the Strava leader board, but don’t compete on the downhilling ei? All the best and have a great holiday with you and yours and count your blessings mate, you lucky so and so
Christ, you must have a HUGE cuff link to fit your new sleeve dude – haha. Keep it up our brave little soldier!! All the best matey, and merry chrimbo to you and yours…
note to all (men) that is what you get for too much m*sterbation…Get well soon Paul and we will pop in and see you over Crimbo…
Guess you won’t be carving the turkey then Paul?
Keep up the good healing work, best wishes to you & family.
Gutted for you Paul, life does not sound fun at the moment, keep your chin up ok, you`ll be back on top soon! by the way, in case your wondering its wet, horrible and the trails are rubbish at the moment, your missing nothing on the bike, hope that helps a little
Glad to see a light at the end of the tunnel for you Mate. Wont be long and everything that you’ve been through the last year will be a dim and distant memory. Merry Christmas to You and Yours
Hey Paul. Your road to recovery is a long one, hope you’re not going too stir crazy, looked at road bikes yet?! Happy Christmas by the way!
Hey Pete, what do you mean? Road bikes? I have a deal with Michelle that he is mine if he wants to ride ever again. Easy Rider is Paul’s future.
Paul, I hope you know that you have the best wife in the world. Not only that you were lucky in all your misery but Michelle is really standing by her man. I hope 2013 will see you returning to normal.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy and better 2013.
See you in the new Year.
Thanks for all the kind comments, my super arm just about fits through my T shirt arms with a bit of a wiggle and as far as road bikes go oooh i have my eye on one and it has not got three wheels just two, when i am out again i will bring out my mate sunshine to dry up them soggy trails.
I have been fortunate to be able to do a lot of walking but now i must stay in and not risk any damage so i am going a bit stir crazy at the moment as i can see Haresfeild and stockend woods from my bed so this does not help.
You are so right Susanne Shell is just great and has been my rock, not only has she been so supportive through all this but supports the fact that i need to get back out on the bike, both me and Shell believe life is to short so you need to help each other in doing what you enjoy, work less play more.
You all have a great Christmas.
Nice jammie bottoms, Paul – early Christmas present?! Looks like you’ve got a bit of cramp in your right hand from those long days at home, so you’d better get back out on the bike soon otherwise you’ll go blind!
Wishing u a speedy recovery paul. You must be itching to get back out on your bak after being off for so long.
have a great christmas and hope to see you on the trails next year.
Take care m8 Dan.
Hey Paul, hurry up and get better. Let me know when you can hold the X-Box controller again
From the picture it looks like he’s gotten used to holding a joystick rather than X-box controller :-O
