More fun and frolics at Ribbesford

So with a successful visit to Ribbesford a month or so ago with the Cheltenham lot, again myself, Dave The Tail Whipper, Ed, Matt K, Sam (mudlover) and Nathan headed back to Ribbesford for some more fun sessioning the great runs.  The atmosphere was again relaxed with other riders using the tracks, as well as the trail pixies completing some maintenance and building some new stuff for this summer..and it does look great..and rather large as well.

Nathan got there early to get in some sneaky runs but ended up having to leave early and head to A&E to get has hand x-rayed as he fell on it…at the trail head not even on the run…so fingers crossed all is well.  Another crash involved Matt K jumping full on into a tree and luckily coming out only with some minor cuts, the tree on the other hand was left with some deep marks.

Other that that we raced down the trails for 3 hours and we even had time to get the GoPro out for a few runs.  I have to confess the filming didn’t quite come out as i was expecting, great handle bar shots..more work next time…

And to remind all that it is only 50 minutes ways and:

Ribbesford Downhill Track is located just outside of Bewdley on the edge of the Wyre Forest. It has been around since th…e early nineties and has been enjoyed by thousands of mountain bikers over the years. It Consists of 3 tracks named: Old Skool, Rib Tickler and Black Ribs. Old school has 2 big rollable jumps, the rest of the track has technical root sections and berms, this is the easiest run, great for beginners and seasoned veterans alike. The Rib Tickler is a fast paced single track run with tight corners, fast staights, flowing jumps, root section, a wooden North Shore feature and new for 2012 a 30ft Gap jump and large bermed corners. This track is aimed at intermediate and advanced level riders. Black Ribs is mainly a freeride route with lots of jumps, pumps, drops, step downs, big berms and is predominantly smooth and fast, aimed at the intermadiate and advanced rider.

Good work editing the videos Jase, just a shame about the camera angle!

Good work fellas, we dont need to see Dave showing off with his tail whips anyway.LoL

Looked fab. Yes, camera angle is a bit off but you could see and hear that it was great fun! Bad luck to the injured. I was just messing about on my bike round my house this evening and somehow fell into a big flower pot. Handlebar went straight in the ribs and until the pain subsided I thought I’d have to get the Mrs to drive me to A&E. I’m OK, but the flower pot and flowers are satisfyingly smashed. Still, that was much more fun than watching the Eurovision song contest…

  • It was good fun.I just need more practice, Jason makes it look to easy as that was the easy run, next time i will where the go pro and you will see it all in slow motion!!

A truly great day out on some dusty trials. A good place too if your just starting to get airborne, with lots of roll-able jumps that if ridden fast test all. Also anyone riding at the FOD downhills soon is in for a treat. On the uplift today the trails were dusty and running scarily fast+ the new black section on the old corkscrew is a real test with 4 sweet and steep drops :-)

  • susanne

Do I understand correctly? There is a black section in the Corkscrew? Squiz pushed me down it today with the words: You will be fine. I was fine but there were some awful steps I rolled over.

  • ed

Indeed a new section Susanne but not officially open yet, and quite hard to find. Not sure you rode this section though as you can definitely not roll the new drops plus there is a step up gap jump too. Also the bottom is not complete, and finishes rather harshly with a steep drop to a flat landing on the fire road. Beware.

  • X-ray clear so just a good sprain to the wrist, couple of easy weeks should see it better, what a plonker not even going down hill!! Yep ran the new bit of corkscrew a week or so ago,no rolling here and all black! Rib’s is a top little spot shame it’s more like an hr and a hlf from mine, still good laugh with freindly locals.

Next time I’m racing up a fire road I’ll keep my eye out for you Ed as I don’t want to be squished ;-)
