Cheddar Gorge roadie ride – UPDATED

Start place has been chosen – its going to be Bad ass bikes which is here
The 40 mile loop has been mapped, its got 2 big climbs (Burlington Combe and Cheddar Gorge) and has 975m of climbing with a cafe stop in Cheddar. The longer 68 mile loop has 1500m of climbing with a cafe stop in Wells.
Dont forget to bring your climbing legs!
This is a ride the closet club roadies have been attempting for months since seeing the Cheddar Gorge stage in last year’s Tour of Britain. Well now its becoming milder and ice isn’t such a threat (hopefully) its now possible.
To accomodate for all abilities there is a choice of two routes – a 41 mile /1100 metre loop (15mph/16mph average), and a longer 70 mile / 1500 metre loop (17/18mph average), both will have a cafe stop. The short loop will look something like this:

The longer loop will have extra flat miles in the middle of the ride. The start point will be confirmed in the next few days once I’ve worked out cafe’s/car parks but it will be in Cheddar somewhere, just wanted to give you all notice now.
If you want to come you wont be disappointed, the gorge is stunning and it will give you an opportunity to stretch those climbing legs!

Yes from me for the longer ride
I’m in for the 70 miler!
Yes from me. Suppose you’re all gonna bully me into the 70-miler!
Yes from me for the 70 miler. Ali has signed up to the shorter ride.
I am sure Karolina is up for the shorter route as well
peter I would like to have riden the short route, but will be going out sat evening so chances are I wont make it. but will be up for it next time
Hi Peter,
Just a thought we could start in the car park we normally start up whe we ride the Mendips with mark as its on the route by bad ass cycles? It’s our side of the Mendips and means we can cycle over the mendips and stop at cheddar….
Just a thought
Jason
Jas, I have a few options, been struggling to find free parking in Cheddar so Bad ass bikes might be better idea. I’ll email you…
Hi,
Yes from me for the longer route.
Ian
hiya, I’m up for the shorter ride. Gpx route please.
Ooh must get a DARK SIDE road bike and some tight pants,be good and enjoy.
Hi Peter
When the start point dude and have you got any of your mates going as well?
Cheers
Jason
Hi all fellow roadies,
Now who is actually doing the shorter route? Why, as Karo is keen but I am getting the impression no one else is going to do it…so if that is the case can they post here please so at least we all know, and if it is no’s she can plan something else rather than travelling and finding she is “billy no mates”
Thanks
Jason
Hi all. I think that I will be struggling to keep up with you on the longer route, and I really don’t want to be
a) holding you all up &
b) always at the back (it’s not much fun always trying to play catch-up and never getting a chance for a breather!)
Therefore, I find myself leaning towards the shorter route… Is anyone doing the shorter variant?
I just think I’ll struggle with the pace on longer route.
Matt
Matt you just gonna have to keep Karo and Janet company as they are defo for the shorter ride…a hardship I know
Oh no. What a catastrophe!
Working what a bummer but have a good ride .
Ditto, work unfortunately beckons so will not be able to make it this time. Have a good one!
Hello, im in but only for the shorter route (bad week commuting).
