EVENT – Wales weekend – Nant-yr-Arian and Rhayader
| 21 April, 2012 7:00 am | to | 22 April, 2012 6:00 pm |
***Update 10/03/12***
Due to 20 junior rugby players + parents staying at the hostel we have been upgraded (at no charge) to the guest house. The owners say we should have ’4 of you in our family suite (one in double bed, one on futon and 2 in the bunk room), 2 in the twin, 3 in the balcony room and 2 in the double.’
This means all 11 places definitely reserved for us are taken. We have 9 confirmed and 3 probables so if we all go we’ll get another space from the owners (they should have a couple more rooms still available).
**********************
Saturday – ride at Nant-yr-Arian trail centre http://www.mbwales.com/en/content/cms/Centres/Nant_yr_Arian/Nant_yr_Arian.aspx
Stay overnight at http://www.plasdolau.co.uk/farm-guest-house/ about 3 miles from Aberystwyth, eat at a pub. £18 per person including continental breakfast (which probably won’t be enough for the Rhayader ride so bring some extra carbs).
Sunday – early start for an open country ride at Rhayader, around 45 kilometers and 1400+ metres of climbing, or 28 kilometers and 1000 metres of climbing. Experienced club members who’ve done this before say the terrain here is tough and it’s hard to work with a split group, so maybe we’ll have a ‘fast’ group and ‘more relaxed’ group, complete with capable navigators. You’ll need to have suitable clothing, spares and food.
Or some people can do another day at Nant-yr-Arian (or somewhere else) if preferred.
Open to all club riders, we can maybe do a couple of different groups both days depending on how energetic and speedy people are feeling.
Once we know who’s interested we’ll no doubt sort out transport between us.
Probably easiest if I collect the money rather than collecting cash on the day. Please BACS your £18 to the Bigfoot account – if you don’t have the account details see http://www.bigfootmbc.co.uk/2012/01/bigfoot-bank-account-details/ ***
The writeup for last April’s trip to North Wales is here if you want to know what we did http://www.bigfootmbc.co.uk/?p=5363

Hi,
We’ve been upgraded (at no charge) from the hostel http://www.plasdolau.co.uk/country-house-hostel/ to the guest house http://www.plasdolau.co.uk/farm-guest-house/ as they have 20 junior rugby players and 20 parents staying so they need the hostel for them.

There were a couple of votes for the pub http://www.tynllidiartarms.com/TynMenu/Tynllidiart-Arms-Menu-Pub-Restaurant.php but I haven’t booked a table as not sure what everyone else wants to do, maybe heading into Aberystwyth will give us more choice – Indian, Chinese, Italian etc.
If we want the pub I think we’ll need to book ahead…v.soon.
Thanks.
Hello all,
As the weather is looking wet and muddy for the weekend, can I please ask people to bring extra carrier bags/bin bags, an old towel they don’t mind getting wet and muddy and a change of clothers for when we finish rides and are moving between the ride and bunk house/home, so you have something clean(er/ish) to sit on in the car with and also to put your wet clothes in as well.
Appreciate we are going to get dirty, but to stem the flow in the car would be much appreciated
Cheers
Jason
The all important greasy fry-up update: I’ve had 8 takers for the cooked breakfast – Jason, Peter, David, Tim, Janet, Sam, Robert, me. We now all have a legit excuse for being slow uphill on Sunday morning.
I’ve asked for breakfast at 8 a.m.
Ed: the owner says she’ll also make porridge – ‘as much as needed’.
