AWAY DAY ride – Afan RED / BLUE / GREEN

5 February, 2012
10:00 amto2:00 pm

So its an away day to Afan trail centre to run the Whites and Wall trails back to back. If you haven’t been before or think you will not be able to run two trails as its 4 hours, you can always just do one trail and come and get some experience.  We are aiming to start riding at 10am so if your driving up please be there beforehand so we can start at 10am.

For all those going first off we are meeting at the new centre, address below: Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre Ynyscorrwg Park Glyncorrwg Port Talbot SA13 3EA

The ride is suitable for all riders as we can natural split the group and the trails are AWESOME.  More travel the better BTW so if you have it BRING IT!

  • This will be my first outing as ride leader so please shout if im to slow to fast or if you just feel like shouting, will be leading the longer ride, the W2, taking in both the whites and wall trails. This will be a red graded ride and take about 4hrs so a decent level of fitness will be needed!
For those of you that are new to Afan, you can expect a couple of big climbs one quite technical, one fire road slog, some of the best single track around, a few jumps and drops(avoidable),and 2 of the most exciting and challenging decents to be had anywhere!
This is my fave place to ride and shouldnt be missed, plus bring your credit cards as theres a great little bike shop and cafe. All in all a great day out so see you there.

I really hope I can make this as the trails are tough but fantastic. Thanks for giving this momentum Nathan.
Just a note to all: Bring loads of food (not just sweets) as you don’t want to feel like I did the first time I went! Here’s a link to the W2 trail map and description for which you can download a PDF to print out and bring along: http://mbwales.com/en/content/cms/Centres/Afan_Forest_Park/W2/W2.aspx
If you don’t want to do the whole W2 follow the links to find details on other trails, but try to round up a posse to go with you, or at least a riding buddy! Let’s hope it’s sunny! :-)
PS: It’s a bit of a drive, so if you want to exchange phone numbers or discuss car sharing, email me on rubberduckzy@gmail.com

  • Absolutely about the food plenty of good carbs!
An obvious option for those who think the 40+km of the w2 is to much for them,is just to peel off at the top of the first climb to complete the whites level, that will cut ride down to 14km and about 1.5-2hrs,a great trail to improve skill levels and well way marked so no danger of getting lost!
